Illinois Attorney General Report Reveals Nearly 2,000 Children Were Abused by Catholic Clergy

In May 2023, the Illinois Attorney General's office released a comprehensive report detailing decades of child sexual abuse by Catholic clergy members. The investigation found that 451 Catholic clerics abused at least 1,997 children across the state's six dioceses. Many of these cases were hidden from the public and not properly investigated at the time of the allegations.

Many States Have Amended Its Statute of Limitations

Multiple states' legislature have passed new laws that have or will amend or eliminate the statute of limitations on civil lawsuits for child sexual abuse.

These laws give people who were abused or assaulted a chance to bring a civil case against the institutions and individuals who committed these hurtful acts.
